Fall is coming, time to put those plans into Action!

The time has finally come! With the temperatures trying to moderate a bit (We did have a couple of days below 90) plants and seeds can get started for fall. Transplants of Tomatoes and Cucumbers can be put in, Fall seeding can start in the next week or so, then Lettuce and carrots by the end of the month, weather permitting. Check soil temp to be sure. We should have a new shipment of seeds in about this time next week, and we just got in some tomato seedlings that will need good homes. While we wait on the next garden, specials this week are:

To help support the Bethune-Cookman University Hydroponics & Sustainable Agriculture Initiative, and their community projects, we have some Tomato Seedlings for sale. These are from Organic Seeds in Organic soil and sell for $5.00 each. Red Currant and Plum tomatoes are available.
Saturday we will be working with a modified schedule. The store will be opening at 1:00 pm, as I will be working the Downtown Market in Daytona Beach. We will then be closing at 5:30pm in order to attend the screening of “Dirt, the Movie” at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach and take part in the discussion afterward. Tickets for the event are $10 with the proceeds going to the Greenovations Programs of NSBMS. Sunday the 11th at 4:30, we have a class on Raised Bed Gardening here at the store. Please register for this class so we can be sure to print enough copies for everyone. Call 386-236-9447 to reserve your spot.
September the 25th, is our class on Container Gardening here at the store. This is a great way to go if you haven’t much space or just want to add some interest to the yard or patio. It is also a great way to have fresh herbs right by the kitchen door!
Coming up on October 9th, Ravi and Liliya will bring their Dehydrating class back to the store. There will be a $10 fee for this class to defray the costs of the foods they will provide for you to taste. Registration and pre payment for this class will be necessary. Please register at the store during business hours. This will be a lot of fun, and you will get the chance to try out some new flavors that you can really only get through dehydrating! (It is also a lot less work than canning!)
A preview of Octobers other events include Shane Hennessy of Evolution, with an in depth look at Himalayan Salt and its uses. We will let you know more in the next couple of weeks. Also in Oct. will be a Sprouting Class with Ravi Kaur, so free up some Sunday afternoon time in Sept. and Oct. to join in and have some fun.
