Did You Know??

Did you know that this Friday is National Public Gardens Day?  It has been set aside to high light the benefits of public gardens to our communities and environment.  Some are formal, some more casual, but they all fulfill the need for green spaces in our lives,  Places to sit and reflect, wonder at the variety of nature, and be amazed at the structured formality of a manicured garden.  How many Garden weddings  and receptions have taken place in our local Public Gardens?  More than we ever thought, and each one special for the atmosphere they provide.  This weekend is Mother’s Day as well, Why not combine the two and take a stroll through one of our local gardens with Mom?  Washington Oaks has a beautiful Rose garden, Ormond Beach has the Casements and one of my favorites Memorial Gardens on Granada.  If a longer trip is possible, check with the fabulous Bok Tower Garden in Lake Wales, or the Florida Zoo and Botanical Garden in Sanford.  There are many lovely spaces in our area, so take advantage of them and the relaxation and inspiration they can afford.

The local harvest is looking like summer is almost here, we are getting in Lacinato Kale and Green Beans from Pauline’s Lucky Market Garden and Fresh Sweet Corn from Sun Splash Nurseries.  From other regions we have beets with tops and new crop Vidalia Sweet Onions from Ga., Cucumbers from S.
